Ribbons

I know I have said it many times before but I LOVE Stampin’ Up! ribbon.  I am officially addicted, I wish I had the room and money to have it all.  I love using it on my cards and crafts but I use it for so much more.  The ribbon are so wonderful and such high quality that I am always making bows and do-dads for my girls hair with them.  I also use them to wrap up little goodies.  I had made a batch of banana bread and wanted to send some to school to the kids teachers, just as a little token of thanks.  Of course I couldn't sent just plain banana bread so I wrapped the muffins with some of the polka dot in color grosgrain and it made the muffins look fabulous. 

Both of the kids teachers commented on how cute they looked with the ribbon and that of course they have saved the ribbon for their own future projects.  So next time you think of giving a little something to a friend, teacher or a neighbor tie a little ribbon on it to make the person feel extra special.

Baptism Invites

I tried to create some pretty invitations for my daughters baptism.  I really struggled with this one because I wanted the card to be mostly white and simple, but still pretty and elegant.  I think that I was finally able to create the card that I intended.  I was so happy with the final results but so very disappointed in the pictures.  I tried taking pictures at different times of day with different lights, no lights, every which way I could imagine but I could not get one shot that showed of the simple beauty of the card.  (I took 109 pictures and these are the 3 best, thank goodness for digital cameras!)   The card was made using the shimmery white cardstock and sprayed with 5 complete coats of shimmer paint spray.  I would spray them all wait a minute for them to dry before spraying them again.  The cards really shimmered! 

Shot #1 Colors closest to real life Shot#2 Shows a little bit of the sparkle.  (The card REALLY sparkles in real life) Shot #3 This is the way that most of the pictures turned out  because there was so much shimmer paint on the cardstock.  I guess it was picking up the color in the paint instead of the shimmer although the card still looks completely white in person.

8 year old b-day

Wow, I cannot believe that my baby is now 8, I guess I can’t really refer to her as a baby anymore but I call all my kiddos my babies and it drives them nuts.  Time sure does fly.   Every year when we make the birthday cards I involve the kids in the process.  They pick the theme, color, stamps, and help me to design the card itself.  It is up to them how much more they want to do.  This year Kaitlyn wanted to do all of the stamping by herself.  I showed her how to do a OSW (one sheet wonder) and she actually did one pretty well but she was not happy with it.  I thought it was great for her first try and I tried to get a picture of it but she was too embarrassed and ran over to the shredder and destroyed it.  She did help with the gluing of all of the layers and the other stamping but I made the OSW.

The picture really does not do the card justice.  The OSW was created on shimmery white cardstock and the finished osw was sprayed with the combo of champagne shimmer paint and rubbing alcohol.  So the card is nice and sparkly, perfect for any young girl.

Of course we had to bring in some sort of goody bag/ treat to her class so we decided on the little “sour cream” containers.  Theses were made out of the 6x6 Good Neighbor Designer Series Paper pad.  After the incident with her not wanting a picture of her stamping she arranged these and came and told me that it was ok to take a picture of them.  So here you go!

Diva Coffee Break Designs #170

Oh my goodness, where does time go.  I cannot believe that it is Wednesday again already.   This week was a color challenge.  Some nice springy colors…

… flowers, leaves and dirt, were the first things to come to mind when I got a look at the colors.  Here is the card that I created:

This is a really simple straight forward card.  I love the sweet pea stitched felt and have been trying to use it instead of hoarding it. 

I have been busy trying to get things ready for a school open house and a class that are both happening tomorrow night so I will have lots of stuff to you coming soon.

Diva Coffee Break Designs Challenge #169

Happy St Patrick’s Day.  I am not a big fan of the holiday but I put on a happy face and make corned beef and cabbage for my husband and make sure that all of the kids will be wearing green so that they do not have to endure any pinching at school.  So I decided to use green in my cards. This week we have a fun and simple sketch to go with.

Again this week I made two cards for the challenge.  Over the weekend I made this card, my first attempt.  Then last night as I went to upload it to the Diva website, I noticed that there were two other cards that were very similar.  So I decided to start over and make something completely different.  Here is my first card to wish you all good luck and a happy St Patty’s Day.As you can see, St Patrick’s Day gave me a bit of a struggle.  But I was pleased with how it turned out.  The next card is a design that I might use for a swap, but of course I would tweak it a little bit.  I realized that I had zero, yep zip, zilch, zero birthday cards for boys so I tried to create a fun bright card that a young boy would enjoy.  I will have to see if it passes the test with my son.

DCBD Challenge #168

It is time for a color challenge over on the Diva Blog.  I was not too super thrilled with the colors until I actually pulled them out and had them sitting together on my desk. 

The first thing I thought about making was something with flowers.  It has been nice and sunny and spring like here so of course I want to add some flowers into my life by stamping.  I have seen so many different example of the XL bird punch being used to make tulips so I had to give it a try myself.

 Do you see the birds?  The wings make the 3 sections of the tulips.  This is a get well card that I gave to my daughter who still feels crummy. 

The first card came together so beautifully and quickly I decided to so another with the same colors.  

I love the little animals in this set, they are just so cute.

You’re never more than a thought away.

I really like the Whimsical Words stamp set.  The sayings are great and I love the style/format of each stamp.  I really wanted to showcase the images in the set so I came up with a simple and cute card to do so.

This is just a quick post as I have 3 sick kiddos, two on the mend and one just coming down with it so I dont have much free time the past few days.

Cupcakes!

My family has gone crazy for cupcakes for the last few years or so.  No one wants just a cake anymore.  So when I saw this cute little box I just knew I had to learn to make it.    It is the perfect way to give away a cupcake to someone to let them know that you care.I really like this stamp set, it is such a fun variety and texture of hearts together and works great for so much more than Valentine's Day.  It is the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set found in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog as either clear mount or wood mount.  After I took this picture I added in a little more adhesive on the corners to hold them in tightly so that they are not flapping in the breeze.

These cupcakes are Weight Watchers Friendly at only 2 points per cupcake.  I generally do not use a mix for baking, it just tastes so much better to make it from scratch, but for this one I made the exception.  You just take a package of cake mix and add a can of your favorite diet soda.  For this cake I used a devil’s food cake mix and a diet pomegranate 7-up.  Just mix it up and cook according to directions.  Then I topped them with some fat free cool whip.  It was actually pretty tasty for something from a box! 

I will look for the pattern for the box for you.  This is the problem with now having my computer and stamping stuff of opposite ends of the house.  I file something in my head to make at a later time instead of turning around and making it like I used to do.  I will find the pattern I used and let you know.

Diva Coffee Break Designs Challenge # 167

This is a challenge that I did way ahead of time.  I knew that I would totally space it if I waited till the last minute so I got it done and posted early like a good little girl. 

This sketch was a tough one for me.  I don't know why, it seemed simple enough but I started so many different designs and colors and themes and nothing was turning out.  This was the card that I liked the best.  I am not sure who I would give it to, so I left a sentiment off.  I went with a nice cheery color pallet inspired by the DSP because it was a cold rainy day when I made it and I was wishing for some nice sunshine.

Its March, Finally!

I have had so many people comment that February just flew by and that they could not believe that it was March already.  Me, on the other hand, I am so glad that February is over and it is finally March.  February was not the best month for me, I spent about 90% of the month sick, there were a few days here and there that were ok, but I am glad to have it past me.  This  meant that everything at home spiraled out of control.  But I have caught up!  There is no longer a huge stack of laundry waiting to be folded and the hampers are not overflowing, the carpets have been vacuumed, floors mopped and swept and even the fridge cleaned out!  In the midst of all of the cleaning I even decided to re-do the stamping corner in my room.  Last September we turned our “office” into a bedroom for our oldest daughter and had to take what took up 1/2 of the office into a little corner of my bedroom.  I just could not get it set up in a way that still looked nice enough to have in my bedroom and be functional.  I think I finally did it last Friday and I have actually had fun stamping in there again.

The first thing that I have to show is a set of Thank You cards that I made.  They use some of my favorite retired paper from Stampin’ Up!, the Bella Rose DSP, and the Upsy Daisy stamp set.

I used Pink Pirouette (retired 08-09 In Color) to  stamp a shadow behind the Daisies.  This was a quick set of cards to put together and can easily be duplicated with any current paper and colors.
